3,400 lightning strikes on High Desert; fires erupt

Thunderstorms rolled north through Central Oregon Sunday afternoon, accompanied by 3,400 lightning strikes that had crews scrambling to hit dozens of new, mostly small fires across the region -- some threatening homes on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation. A Klamath County fire grew to 600 acres and burned structures.

Warm Springs hit hard by storms, fires

The Warm Springs Indian Reservation has been girding for a potentially tough wildfire season -- and on Sunday, the signs of just such a rough stretch arrived in the form of close to 1,000 lightning strikes that sparked at least 17 fires on or near the reservation, some threatening structures and prompting a few evacuations.

Klamath County wildfire destroys homes

A wildfire that broke out Sunday afternoon near the Klamath County town of Sprague River quickly grew to over 600 acres, prompting evacuations and destroying an undetermined number of homes and other structures, officials said Sunday night.
